The German meteorological station advised citizens last Monday to take extra precaution in view of the extreme temperatures and high UV radiation over the following week, asking to “avoid staying outdoors for long periods”. Sunblock, sunglasses and a sun hat are advisable even in the shade.
Even though Portugal will be safe from this heatwave, risk of wildfires and heat stroke will rise over the following days. Drinking water and staying indoors is advisable.
Experts warn that such heatwaves are expected to become more frequent as the planet keeps getting warmer.
