Portimão Surgeon wins prestigious fellowship

A surgeon working for the Hospital of Portimão has been awarded the single vacancy for a Fellowship with the European Society of Coloproctology.

Miguel Cunha, a doctor in his last year of specific training in general surgery at Portimão Hospital, has been awarded one of the most prestigious Fellowships in the area, by the European Society of Coloproctology.

Cunha chose the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona to work during his internship, which will last six months.

The purpose of the Fellowship will be to ‘further develop minimally invasive laparoscopic colorectal surgery’, Dr Cunha said, signalling also Catalans the importance of the centre’s research.
